Die Teams kaempfen in dieser Saison um den Einzug in den Super Bowl XLVIII es ist die 44. Auflage des Endspiels um die Meisterschaft zwischen der National Football Conference (NFC) und der American Football Conference (AFC) und der 48. Super Bowl insgesamt seit Beginn seiner Austragung zwischen American Football League (AFL) und National Football League (NFL). Das Spiel wird voraussichtlich am 2. Februar 2014 im MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford (New Jersey), der Heimspielstätte der New York Giants sowie der New York Jets, ausgetragen.

A Carpatair Avion de Transport Regional ATR-72-500 on behalf of Alitalia, registration YR-ATS performing flight V3-1670/AZ-1670 from Pisa to Rome Fiumicino (Italy) with 46 passengers and 4 crew, landed on Fiumicino's runway 16L (runway 3) at about 20:32L (19:32Z) but veered right off the runway and came to a stop on soft ground with the right main and nose gear collapsed. The aircraft was evacuated. A passenger received a serious injury (broken femur), the first officer received a serious spinal injury, 4 passengers received minor injuries, all 6 were taken to hospitals. The aircraft received substantial damage to right main and nose gear, nose, right hand propeller and engine.

Mercedes-Benz Superdome

The Mercedes-Benz Superdome, previously known as the Louisiana Superdome and colloquially known as the Superdome, is a sports and exhibition arena located in the Central Business District of New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. Plans were drawn up in 1967 by the New Orleans modernist architectural firm of Curtis and Davis. Its steel frame covers a 13-acre (5.3 ha) expanse. Its 273-foot (83 m) dome is made of a Lamella multi-ringed frame and has a diameter of 680 feet (210 m), making it the largest fixed domed structure in the world.

It is home to the NFL's New Orleans Saints, the NCAA's Division I-A Tulane Green Wave football team (the largest football stadium in Conference USA), the State Farm Bayou Classic, the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, the Allstate Sugar Bowl and, every fourth year, the BCS National Championship Game. Because of the size and location in one of the major tourist destinations in the United States, the Superdome routinely makes the "short list" of candidates being considered for major sporting events, such as the Super Bowl and the Final Four.

In 2005, the Superdome gained international attention of a different type when it housed thousands of people seeking shelter from Hurricane Katrina. The building suffered extensive damage as a result of the storm, and was closed for many months afterward.

On October 3, 2011, it was announced that Mercedes-Benz purchased naming rights to the stadium. The new name took effect on October 23, 2011.[6] It is the third stadium that has naming rights from Mercedes-Benz (and first in the United States), after the Mercedes-Benz Arena, the stadium of Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart, in Stuttgart, Germany and the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai, China.

PARTICIPANTS -- The 49ers (NFC) and Baltimore Ravens (AFC). This is the sixth appearance for the 49ers (5-0) and second for the Ravens (1-0).
SITE -- Mercedes-Benz Superdome, New Orleans. This will be the 10th Super Bowl played in New Orleans and the seventh at the Superdome. The first three New Orleans Super Bowls were played at Tulane Stadium, which was demolished in 1980.

KICKOFF -- 3:30 p.m. PST
NETWORK COVERAGE -- By CBS to more than 200 stations throughout the United States. Dial Global Radio to 600 stations within the United States. Armed Forces Television will also provide broadcast to 175 countries. The game will be distributed internationally by the NFL and NFL International to more than 185 countries and broadcast in 30 languages.
PLAYERS' SHARES -- Winners: $88,000 per man. Losers: $44,000 per man.
UNIFORMS -- The 49ers will be the home team and have their choice of wearing their red or white jerseys.
OVERTIME -- At the end of regulation, the referee will immediately toss a coin at the center of the field, according to rules pertaining to the usual pregame toss. The captain of the Ravens (the visiting team) will call the toss. After a three-minute intermission after the end of regulation, play will resume with 15-minute periods with a two-minute intermission between each such overtime period with no halftime intermission. The teams will change goals between each period; there will be a two-minute warning at the end of each period.
Both teams must have the opportunity to possess the ball once during the extra period, unless the team that receives the opening kickoff scores a touchdown on its initial possession, in which case it is the winner. If the team that possesses the ball first scores a field goal on its initial possession, the other team shall have the opportunity to possess the ball. If (that team) scores a touchdown on its possession, it is the winner. If the score is tied after both teams have a possession, the team next scoring by any method shall be the winner.
OFFICIAL TIME -- The scoreboard clock will be official.
OFFICIALS -- There will be seven officials and five alternates appointed by the commissioner's office.
TROPHY -- The winning team receives permanent possession of the Vince Lombardi Trophy, a sterling silver trophy created by Tiffany and presented annually to the winner of the Super Bowl. The trophy was named after the late coach of the two-time Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers before the 1971 Super Bowl. The trophy is a regulation-size silver football mounted in a kicking position on a pyramid-like stand of three concave sides. The trophy stands 20¾ inches tall, weighs 6.7 pounds and is valued at more than $25,000. The words "Vince Lombardi" and "Super Bowl XLVII" are engraved on the base along with the NFL shield.
