A Zimbabwe-registered cargo plane crashed when taking off at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport at 8:12am today, killing three foreign crew and injured four.
The MD11 aircraft, heading to Kyrgyzstan, overshot the runway and burned when departing. The fire was put out at 9am.
Four crew aboard were rescued by 10:53am and three others were confirmed dead in the crash.
Two of the three runways at the Pudong Airport were closed after the accident. Some flights were delayed.

CARGO airline Avient is to take delivery of its first MD-11 freighter tomorrow. The ex- Varig Log aircraft is currently stored at Miami and will be delivered to Avient’s operations in Liège on 18 November. It will then enter service operating charter flights from Asia to Europe in December.
Avient has said that it plans to upgrade its existing fleet of DC-10-30 freighters with the MD-11Fs. Originally, chief executive officer, Andrew Smith, told Air Cargo News this time last year that, the company would replace the MD-11s with A330s.
