    A cargo plane has crashed onto a busy highway in Dubai, setting fire to vehicles, according to reports.
    The plane was attempting to land at Dubai International Airport when a technical problem caused the crash, a United Arab Emirates (UAE) official told local television station Al Arabiya.
    Witnesses said the plane was on fire before crashing, Al Jazeera TV reported.
    The crew have not been accounted for and there have been unconfirmed reports of casualties.
    "According to initial reports, the crew has been killed," Al Arabiya said.

    A UPS Boeing 747-400, registration N571UP, was on approach to Dubai's runway 30L, declared emergency and veered off course crashing onto a free space west of Dubai Silicon Oasis and Al-Ain Highway (E66), about half way between Emirates Road (E311) and road E611. Both crew perished in the crash.

    Ja die Maschine hab ich auch schon häufiger in EDDK gesehen, meistens Sonntags. Mein Mitgefühl und Beilied für die Angehörigen der verstorbenen. :(

    Friends in DSO (Villenort wo 1500 Emirates Crewmitglieder wohnen) say the plane was dumping fuel constantly as it tried to make it back. His shirt and garden stink of Jet A1... Nearly took out the last set of villas on the Al Ain road side... then crashed. It could have (possibly) crashed into the small set of villas between the 311 and 611 as it tried to make the air base landing field.

    war nach Takeoff 12R und hat versucht zur 30L zurückzukehren, was man so hört wurde ein Emergency decleared wegen Rauch im Cockpit

    WASHINGTON–The Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) today alerted operators to results of new research on the risks associated with transporting lithium batteries as cargo on aircraft and recommended actions air carriers can take to reduce those risks.
    In a Safety Alert for Operators (SAFO), the FAA summarized recent research which shows that lithium metal (non-rechargeable) and lithium-ion (rechargeable) batteries are highly flammable and capable of igniting during air transport under certain circumstances. The research also indicates that Halon 1301, the suppression agent found in Class C cargo compartments, is ineffective in suppressing lithium metal battery fires.
    The SAFO also lays out additional recommended procedures air carriers can institute when transporting lithium batteries.
